Day of the Dead Celebration

Day of the Dead is a celebration that combines ancient Aztec celebration of ancestors with All Souls’ Day which Spanish invaders brought to Mexico in the 1500s. It’s a joyful time to remember the deceased and celebrate their memories. Old Town Mankato is hosting a Day of the Dead Festival on October 28th from 11am to 4pm, and we want to highlight a few of the events you can expect to find during the celebration.

For this festival, local artists have been given the opportunity to show their creativity. Mankato’s sculpture park will be filled with additional Catrinas, Alebrijes, Calaveras, and other Day of the Dead- themed sculptures.

Handmade artists and vendors have the opportunity to share their works with visitors as well. Browse unique gifts while listening to a variety of music including two mariachi bands, cumbia band, and a Spanish rock band.

Take a bite of authentic food while learning more about this festival through cultural education. From watching Azteca dancers to Mexican wrestlers, you’re sure to stay entertained throughout the day. Not forgetting to keep the kids entertained - you can find them jumping in the bounce houses or taking a mini-train ride!

This event is free admission and made possible from a grant provided by the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council. Be sure to support this event so it can continue through the years to bring cultural education to the Greater Mankato Area. And don’t forget to book with Arch + Cable Hotel for next years event!
